The current issue of WOHNEN, the specialist magazine for cooperative housing construction in Switzerland, devotes itself to selected cooperative housing estates. The Riburg housing cooperative is among those featured as a sustainable project. Frédéric Bourrat, project manager at Burckhardt, explains the master plan: Having won the ideas competition in 2016 with the idea of a modular overall concept and a phased renovation of the existing building stock, Burckhardt realized two replacement buildings for the housing cooperative in Basel in 2021.

Besides offering twice the living space, the apartment buildings also set standards for sustainable architecture: «At the time of construction, it was one of the largest timber buildings in the region,» says the project manager.
