Ceremonial handover of Aalen police headquarters
Security and state-of-the-art technology – these parameters guided the planning for the refurbishment and expansion of the police headquarters. The ceremonial handover of the Aalen police headquarters took place on Wednesday, 27 September 2023. The construction project was planned and realized in two stages by Burckhardt Berlin.
«When upgrading and extending existing buildings, the efficient use of resources is the highest priority in planning. This is more important than ever in our present day,» Carsten Krafft, Managing Director of Burckhardt Architecture in Berlin, explains.
The existing building’s refurbishment process began with the interior, and ensured that the renovated rooms meet the requirements of the police, both technically and design-wise. The building’s outer shell was retained and certain specific aspects renovated, such as replacing the over 300 windows. At the same time, the façade meets the high security requirements of the police. Especially in the entrance area, the necessary access security measures were inconspicuously integrated into the architecture. This creates an open, transparent atmosphere, just like the spirit of the police in Aalen.
The station is growing to cope with the diverse tasks involved in police work. Together, the two buildings – the new building for the command and situation center and the existing building – form the new home of the police headquarters in Aalen.
