CEO Samuel Schultze retires

Samuel Schultze, CEO and member of the Board of directors of Burckhardt is taking his well-deserved retirement after 38 years of service.

At a familiar event on Tuesday, 2 May 2023, the employees said goodbye to their CEO at Burckhardt Basel’s offices. It was an emotionally charged event with numerous voices agreeing Samuel Schultze has shaped the company and made it what it is today: one of the largest and most successful architecture firms in Switzerland with an international orientation.

«As a committed entrepreneur, passionate architect and courageous visionary, Samuel Schultze shaped the history of the architecture firm founded in Basel in 1951.» Wolfgang Hardt, CEO

«His level-headed and even-tempered manner characterised him.» Christina Muchsel, Member of the Basel site management

«Sämi, like a rock, unperturbed by the swell of external events, always focused on the great Burckhardt.» Oliver Henninger, Member of the company management Geneva, Lausanne

Samuel Schultze «La Grandeur» or «Le Capitain», as he was honoured, did not miss the opportunity to address words of appreciation and commitment to those present and mentioned in passing that no less than 360 management meetings, 70 board meetings and a good 1,000 employee meetings marked his successful career.

What began in 1985 as a design architect ended at the end of April 2023 with a career as CEO, Delegate of the Board of Directors and Head of the Basel site. Since 1 January 2022, Samuel Schultze has led the company together with Wolfgang Hardt. Wolfgang Hardt, himself with Burckhardt for 12 years, succeeded him on 1 May 2023. Samuel Schultze will remain with the Burckhardt family as a member of the Board of directors.
